Hosted by Stacy's Book Rack, the 3rd annual Peoria Bookfest brings together 135 authors and bookish vendors for a full day of book discovery, writer meet-and-greets, and literary vendor shopping. Taking place on Saturday, November 14, 2026, the festival offers VIP early entry starting at 10am, followed by morning and afternoon general admission sessions running through 4pm. Proceeds from ticket sales ($2–$30) directly support the Book Rack Literacy Project, a community outreach program providing thousands of free books to local teachers and students each year. Peoria's premier, long-running poetry open mic, Whisper and Shout runs from 8-10pm on the first & third Thursday of every month at the Contemporary Art Center in Downtown Peoria draws local, regional, and national spoken-word artists and poetry performers. Hosted by Ryan Lowry and Whitney Jensen, and featuring music by DJ YV, each evening features a designated guest poet alongside an open floor for community voices. An acoustic, open-forum community night from 7-9pm on the third Thursday of every month at Lit. on Fire Books, primarily focused on poetry and spoken word, though fiction and short acoustic music sets are also welcomed. Formerly known as the Peoria Book Rack, the first independent used bookshop in Peoria makes the perfect place for poets searching for rare collections or inspiration, or anyone looking for used books in Peoria.
My Writing Shed: A 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by writers for writers in Central Illinois. Located near Main Street in Peoria, they offer write-ins, "Saturday Night Writes" open sheds, and collaborative literary gatherings.

Peoria Poetry & Literature meetup group hosts a number of different events. In addition to a Poetry Circle at the River City Reading Room, book discussions at the North Branch Public Library, and online chats. Though the group's members started by discussing theology and spirituality, they have shifted their focus to poetry and literature.
Peoria Poetry Club has continuously met since 1941.
